A Study on Knowledge and Practice for Diet Therapy in Patient with Diabetes Mellitus


Abstract
This Study was attempted to examine the correlation of knowledge and practice and the
influencing factors on diet therapy in patient with Diabetes Mellitus.
96 D.M patients(C,S Hospital OPD in Taegon) were investigated in January, 1991. The following findings were obtained as a result of this study.
1. There was significant correlation between knowledge and practice for diet therapy in D.M patient (p<0,001).
2. There was no significant difference in D.M diet practice by age distribution(p>0.05).
3. There was significant difference in D.M diet practice between male and female(p<0. 025).
The average practical score of male was 63.8, and female was 52.3.
4. There was significant difference in D.M diet practice by educational level(p<0.025). The average practical score of group above college graduator was 73.7, middle-high school graduator was 56.6, and under primary school was 55.8.
5. There was significant difference in D.M diet practice between group with complication and without complication(p<0.025).
The average practical score of the group without complication was 61.5, and with complication was 55.4.
6. There was significant difference in D.M diet practice by duration of illness (P<0. 05), The average practical score of the group above 10 years was 65.1, and under 1 years was 61.4, 1-5 years was 58.7, 6-10 years was 46.1.
7. There was significant difference in D.M diet practice by obesity level(p<0.001). The average practical score of the group with¡¾10% level was 69.1, and 20-30% level was 43.8, over 30% level was 43.1.
